This year, we had the pleasure of awarding not one, not two, but three Civic Awards to well deserving members of the community!
Colin Parker Good Neighbour Award - Deborah Gear
"A lady who shows that kindness truly does cost nothing. This lady was described as a joy and inspiration, with her nominator specifically highlighting the exceptionally kind care and attention that she shows him by regularly cleaning, bringing shopping and ensuring he is safe, due to his inability to carry out daily tasks in the way in which he used to. It’s truly heartwarming to know there are still people out there who like to look after each other."
Volunteer of The Year - Robert Bell
"A gentleman who has been recognised for his exceptional dedication and contribution to the Bedlington Learning Hive. As head gardener and a learning mentor in the garden, he consistently goes above and beyond, often volunteering for seven hours each day. Not only is this gentleman kind and patient, he also plays a crucial role in supporting other learners, helping them to build confidence, develop new skills and reduce feelings of social isolation."
Volunteer Group of The Year - Friends of Furnace Bank
"This group was originally established in 2018, and since then, they have made a huge impact on the local area. Not only do they meet on the first Saturday of every month to collect litter and dumped material within Dene Park, but they also liaise with other groups such as Northumberland County Council to ensure that the litter is disposed of in the correct manner. Since starting their work, there has been a decrease in the casting aside of unwanted goods, which is truly remarkable."
We were very proud to read the nomination forms, which outlined the dedication local residents portray on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Thank you to all of the nominators, and of course, the nominees for your fantastic work!
