A Day To Remember

On Thursday 8 May, many around the country celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE day, and the residents of East Bedlington Parish were no exception. The Parish Council partnered up with East Bedlington Community Centre to bring a fun filled afternoon to commemorate the official ceasefire which took place on 8 May 1945.
It was heartwarming to see so many residents tucking in to their afternoon tea style buffet whilst singing along to the incredibly talented Bedlington Brass Band and students from the Bedlington Academy Choir. It was clear that the famous hit ‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy’ by The Andrew Sisters was a crowd favourite, however the show stopper was most definitely the joyous sing-a-long to ‘We’ll Meet Again’ by Vera Lynn.
A big thank you to all who attended, and to East Bedlington Community Centre for their help and support throughout the afternoon.
A Beacon of Light in Cambois
Following the great success of the afternoon VE Day celebrations, it was certain that the day could not end there.
As communities across the UK came together to mark this special occasion by lighting up the skies with thousands of beacons, East Bedlington Parish Council knew Cambois Beach would be the perfect location to commemorate. Local residents joined us from 9.30pm, where groups could be seen spectating both on the beach and along the pathways.
The beacon lighting was truly a great way to end a day which we are sure will be remembered forever. A big thank you to John Charlton and David Johnstone for helping to make the day such a success!
